Roadmap for the Restoration of the Greek Railway – 12 Steps for Full Recovery

The comprehensive recovery of the Greek railway is presented through a complete strategic plan with 12 steps by the former president ofOSE, Mr. Yiannis Grammatidis. Within this strategic plan, as stated by the former president of OSE, Yiannis Grammatidis, ‘it becomes imperative to fully revitalize the country’s railway sector.’ Due to tragic accidents like the one in Tempi, devastating weather phenomena such as ‘Daniel’ and ‘Elias,’ significant damages to infrastructure, major conferences, and recent announcements by the Prime Minister, it is evident that a holistic revitalization of the Greek railway sector is crucial. This requires the design and implementation—without delay—of an integrated strategic plan—a ‘roadmap’—as emphasized by Grammatidis. The steps outlined in this recovery plan include activating the new company ‘Ellinikoi Siddirodromoi AE,’ assigning exclusive responsibility for network restoration to this entity rather than the Ministry of Infrastructure & Transport, establishing a Deputy Minister position focused solely on railways, forming a Strategic Planning & Coordination Task Force reporting directly to the Prime Minister, amending laws to expedite construction contracts, prioritizing key projects, temporarily suspending or reducing services where necessary, accelerating the completion of safety systems, enhancing workforce recruitment, leveraging international cooperation for training, and ensuring adequate supply of specialized equipment. According to Grammatidis, implementing these measures will pave the way for Greece to acquire a modern railway system integrated into European networks, ensuring safe passenger and freight transport while fostering economic growth.
