A tragic outcome followed the case of a 10-month-old infant from Rhodes who suffered a choking incident and was urgently airlifted to Athens for specialized care. According to reports, the baby passed away at 4:30 a.m. on Friday, June 10, 2026, despite intensive medical efforts.

Choking Incident and Emergency Response

The incident occurred the previous evening, on Thursday, when the child was rushed to Rhodes General Hospital. Doctors successfully removed the foreign object from the airway and restored vital functions—but prolonged oxygen deprivation had already severely compromised the infant’s condition.

Emergency Airlift to Athens

Given the critical nature of the baby’s health, immediate air evacuation to a specialized pediatric facility in Athens was arranged. Medical staff continued life-support measures throughout the flight and after arrival—but the infant succumbed several hours later.
