The 75-year-old tourist from Germany was in Rethymno, Crete, with his wife, where they spent their holidays. Today Monday (23.09.2024) the couple were preparing to leave the island to return home, but fate had other plans for the unfortunate man who left his last breath on the asphalt. As shown in the video secured by the rethnea.gr unfortunate tourist with his wife, holding their suitcases attempted to cross the road from the pedestrian crossing to find themselves at the bus stop in order to leave to the airport. The 75-year-old’s wife made it across the street safely, unlike her favorite. According to the footage, he was following her while he was “disbanded” by the passing bike. Attention! Hard pictures The unfortunate tourist was fatally injured while the 40-year-old driver was arrested in the self-defence process. The engine driver was reportedly in shock after the incident, shouting that he “killed a man”, as he had not realized the presence of the pedestrian. By ambulance the 75-year-old was taken to the hospital where he was simply found dead. Residents of the area point out that lighting on main roads does not work, making the night dangerous for pedestrians and drivers, while local coffee owner has moved on to precautionary measures, leaving his own sign on to facilitate transit.
