Respect to: The ‘human face’ of the Prison [video]

The “human face”, the Prison launched (28/3/2016) in the… detention of the Φελλίου of Grevena, the minister of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights, Nikos Paraskevopoulos. This is a specially designed space, which looks like a children’s room, where the prisoners parents will be able to meet, but also to spend time with their young children. In this way, it seeks to the smooth reintegration of the prisoner into the social, professional and family environment and, of course, the strengthening of family relationships and the reduction of negative effects of imprisonment.
The child reaches in this area without entering the interior of the prison, while there will be a discreet visual surveillance by a prison officer so that the child feels that he is in prison and can benefit from the contact with the inmate parent.
This work was done without additional public expenditure, but with the efforts of staff and prisoners. The modern children’s furniture are objects of donation, while the space was decorated with paintings by a prisoner, to which the minister of Justice awarded a commendation and prize money.
The “Child Visitation” the prison of the Φελλίου of Grevena, as you called it, as pointed out by mr. Paraskevopoulos, a “model” for other prisons, and said respective space is being prepared in the Women’s prison of Thebes, but will follow wherever you go.
By the way, visit in the Prisons of Grevena, mr. Paraskevopoulos visited the School of Second Chance, the advisory station of KETHEA, as well as the new reading room of the prisoners, while he talked with prisoners. In parallel was for the operation and the “e-visiting”, which is done through skype, which works as a pilot with the presence of psychologists in the store.
