The Minister of Health accepted the resignation—cited for personal reasons—of the President of the National Organization for Medicines (EOPY) Evangelos Manolopoulos, which will come into effect on Friday, July 4th. The new president of EOPY is now appointed as Spiros Sapounas until the completion of the process via ASEP. Additionally, the Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis, wished him good luck and success.

“Yesterday I received and accepted the resignation of EOPY President Mr. Manolopoulos. I would like to thank him for our excellent cooperation. I understand the personal reasons behind his decision to resign and hope for a continuation of our collaboration, at least regarding the international representation of EOPY. The position of EOPY President will be taken over by the current vice-president of the organization Mr. Spiros Sapounas, until the completion of the process through ASEP. I wish him good fortune,” stated the Minister.

Spiros Sapounas holds an MD from the Medical School of Athens and specializes in Endocrinology, Diabetology, and Metabolism. He completed his doctoral thesis and postgraduate studies at the same university. Since 2005, he has been working with the National Organization for Public Health, playing a significant role in managing the COVID-19 pandemic as Vice President of the Organization. Until yesterday, he served as Vice President at EOPY focusing on scientific research.
