The fire that broke out on Tuesday evening (1/4/25) in Ano Patissia sent shockwaves through the entire neighborhood and was visible from afar, with smoke covering a large part of Athens. Residents from nearby buildings in Ano Patissia were forced to evacuate their homes in the middle of the night as the fire quickly grew out of control. As reported by newsit.gr, this marks the third time in 15 days that a fire has erupted at this specific location—a spot situated right in the heart of the urban grid. After the second fire, some residents ventured into the area to investigate the cause, capturing photos that revealed people—likely migrants—had turned the space into a makeshift settlement. Residents fear these individuals may be starting fires to keep warm or cook, endangering the densely populated neighborhood. On Tuesday evening, significant firefighting resources were deployed, including 29 firefighters, 12 vehicles, and a specialized aerial platform truck, to bring the flames under control. The fire began to subside during the early morning hours.
