A rescue team from China’s Yunnan province successfully freed an elderly woman in Myanmar’s capital, Naypyidaw, on Sunday (March 30, 2025), who had been trapped for nearly 40 hours following a powerful earthquake. The Chinese rescue team arrived in Naypyidaw on Saturday and immediately joined forces with local Myanmar firefighters to search for survivors after the deadly quake that was felt as far away as Bangkok, Thailand. The 7.7-magnitude earthquake caused severe damage to a three-story hospital, completely collapsing the first floor and trapping patients under the rubble. Using life-detection equipment, the Yunnan rescue team located the woman trapped under the building. In close coordination with local rescue forces, the team quickly initiated the operation to free her. By 5:00 AM local time on Sunday, almost 40 hours after the earthquake, the elderly woman was successfully rescued. According to the State Administration Council Information Team, as of Saturday evening, a total of 1,700 people lost their lives, 3,408 were injured, and 139 remained missing due to the strong earthquake in Myanmar. Dozens of survivors have been found, while many bodies have been recovered in various areas, including Mandalay and Sagaing, near the earthquake’s epicenter. In the city of Sagaing, 36 people were saved, and 88 bodies were recovered. The 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck the Southeast Asian country on Friday, with Mandalay, Bago, Magway, the northeastern Shan State, Sagaing, and Nay Pyi Taw among the hardest-hit regions. Rescue teams in Myanmar continue to search for people trapped under collapsed buildings, including hotels, schools, mosques, monasteries, and homes.
