Greek citizens and their family members continue to be repatriated from the Middle East via chartered and military aircraft, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Special flights include provisions — under specific conditions — for transporting pets, a key concern for many seeking to return home.

As of the latest official announcement, 1,039 individuals have safely returned to Greece. The ministry stressed that repatriation operations will continue for as long as necessary and remain feasible given evolving security conditions in the region.

The process is progressing gradually, hampered by the closure of airspace across most countries in the broader Middle East — a major logistical challenge for flight planning and execution.

Special attention has been given to pet transportation. The ministry clarified that each airline’s charter terms strictly apply, and that pet transport is explicitly permitted under those terms.

Repatriation efforts are carried out on the instructions of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and coordinated centrally by the ministry, in close cooperation with Greek embassies and consular authorities abroad. The goal remains the safe, phased evacuation of Greek nationals from affected areas, aligned with shifting security conditions on the ground.

The ministry also reminded citizens wishing to return that the first step is to register on the dedicated online platform for Greek nationals residing in the country where they are currently located. Subsequent updates regarding travel arrangements under the repatriation program are communicated through local consulates or relevant ministry services.
