Rent Subsidy: Documentation Deadline for Special Cases is October 20

in

Beneficiary tenants in special cases have until October 20, 2025, to submit documentation for the rent subsidy. This deadline applies mainly to rentals where the landlord is not required to file an electronic lease declaration (such as public entities) or when a handwritten lease exists (e.g., involving minors). To receive the subsidy, eligible tenants must digitally submit documents via the “My Requests” app on myAADE (myaade.gov.gr), including a copy of the lease or handwritten rental declaration, bank payment confirmations, and, for student rentals, a certificate of enrollment. For all other cases, the subsidy will be automatically paid by the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) without application or documentation, based on last year’s tax return, aiming for completion by end-November 2025. No amendment to the tax return is needed solely to add the lease number in E1. The subsidy equals up to one monthly rent (1/12 of the annual rent paid in 2024), capped at €800 for primary residences, plus €50 per dependent child. Student housing allows up to €800 per student. Payments are calculated based on rents declared by landlords in E2; unpaid rents reduce the subsidy proportionally. Key eligibility criteria include income and asset limits: household income must not exceed €20,000 for singles and €28,000 for couples, increasing by €4,000 per dependent child. Total real estate value (based on ENFIA) must be under €120,000 for singles, rising by €20,000 for a spouse and each child. The lease must have been submitted to AADE by July 15, 2025, with the lease number included in the 2024 E1 tax form as updated by the last business day of September. The subsidy is tax-free, non-transferable, and non-seizable, does not offset debts to the state or e-ΕΦΚΑ, and will be reclaimed with interest if false information is found, along with a three-year disqualification.
