Renowned Greek Journalist Iason Moschovitis Passes Away at 93

Beloved journalist Iason Moschovitis has passed away at the age of 93 on Wednesday, June 25. Born in Athens in 1932, Moschovitis embarked on his journalism career in 1951, contributing to both print and electronic media. Initially working as a reporter and political editor for newspapers such as ‘Vradini,’ ‘Akropolis,’ and ‘Apogevmatini,’ he later became the editor-in-chief of ‘Apogevmatini’ from 1983 to 1985 and ‘Vradini’ from 1985 to 1986. In the realm of broadcast media, Moschovitis worked extensively with live reports on EIR radio and was instrumental in shaping state television from 1969 onwards. He served as the lead news anchor, the first chief editor in the news sector, and eventually as the deputy general manager for two years. In the private broadcasting sector, Moschovitis co-founded ANT1 FM radio in 1987 and became its first director. From 1992, he remained a key member of the ANT1 group. In 1989, he organized and directed the news department of Mega Channel. Additionally, between 1959 and 1962, he managed the Press Office of the Greek Embassy in Nicosia, Cyprus. Moschovitis also served as a member of the National Radio and Television Council from 1994 to 2002. Notably, he covered the Apollo 11 moon landing live in 1969, setting a record for TV viewership in Greece. Throughout his illustrious career, Moschovitis received numerous accolades, including the Athanasios Botsis Award and the Editors Union Award, and was honored by the Greek Red Cross.
