The passenger and vehicle ferry Hyperspeed Jet 4 will remain docked at Rafina port following a temporary departure ban imposed after it sustained damage during berthing. According to the Hellenic Coast Guard’s Port Authority, the incident occurred in Rafina without involvement of any other vessel—no other ship was nearby at the time of impact. The ban has stranded hundreds of passengers at the port.
Disrupted Itinerary and Passenger Arrangements
The vessel was scheduled to sail on a regular route to Andros, Tinos, and Mykonos, carrying 250 passengers, 27 passenger cars, and six motorcycles. The operating company has confirmed it will arrange alternative transport for all affected passengers to their destinations.
Investigation and Safety Measures
The competent port authority ordered the departure ban pending mandatory safety inspections and submission of updated seaworthiness certificates. At the time of the incident, northerly winds of 5–6 on the Beaufort scale were blowing in the area.
