in

A midday emergency on Saturday (05.04.2025) at the port of Rafina saw a coordinated effort to rescue a dog that had fallen into the sea. According to reports, the port authority was alerted by the crew of the passenger ship ‘Theologos’ about a dog spotted in the water near pier 12. Initially, port authority staff, with the help of a private vessel and the ship’s crew, attempted to save the dog but were unsuccessful as it had entered a water collection well. Subsequently, the New Makri Fire Department, the Rafina Port Authority (O.L.R.), the relevant municipal service, and members of the animal welfare group ‘PEGASOS’ were informed. Further rescue attempts were made by fire department personnel, with support from LS-ELAKT officers and OLR staff, but the animal remained trapped. After overnight actions by the fire department and the port authority, the dog emerged from the well during the morning hours, swimming towards the old Rafina port with assistance from a patrol boat. It was eventually secured by an animal welfare organization.
