Rafael Varan retired from football at the age of 31

Early end to his great career Rafael, who announced that he was retiring from action at the age of just 31, due to injury problems. Rafael Varan was one of the best in the world. The French footballer was released in the summer by Manchester United and went to the Italian Como of Sesk Fabregas, which is newly lit in the Italian league. But things didn’t go well. Varan was injured again on his right knee, staying out for several months. So he decided and announced today on social media that he was retiring from the stadiums: “With pride and gratitude for what I have accomplished, I announce my departure from the sport we all love. I keep myself to the highest standards and want to leave strong and not just hold onto the game. Desire and needs are different things. The right time to stop is after the England Cup game and the success at Wembley. I don’t regret anything, I wouldn’t change anything, it starts a new life off the field. I will stay in Como, but without needing football shoes, I will share more with you soon,” Varan said in his post putting an end to his career. The French star began his career with the Lance youth team and, before the 2010–11 season, began training with the first team, making several entries from the bench in league matches. He made his professional debut in 2010 at the age of 17, in a league match against Montpellier. After a season in Lance, he took the big step in his career wearing Real Madrid’s jersey, in the summer of 2011, following a relevant recommendation from Zinedine Zidan. During the stay in the Madrid team, Varan made over 300 appearances and won 18 trophies, among them three Spain championships, a Copa del Rey, four Champions League and so many FIFA Collection World Cups. At the age of just 24, Varan won the Champions League for the third time, making him the youngest defender to have won the trophy three times, breaking Paolo Maldini’s record that was 26 when he won his third cup. Varan made his national team debut in March 2013. He was a member of the mission of the World Cup team of France, in 2014, in that tournament he was even nominated for the best new player award, as well as the 2018 team in the world cup, where he did not lose a minute of attendance until the final, when the “tricolors” won the trophy. Varan left Real in summer 2021 to sign to Manchester United. He was undoubtedly one of the top defenders in the history of European football, while in Real was for years one of the best defensive twins of all time along with Sergio Ramos. In England and his three years at “Old Trafford” with United, he celebrated a cup (2024) and a League Cup (2023), but without having the appearances he had with Real, as he often faced injury problems, and in summer he was free to then transfer to Como, which was the last station in his great career.
