RAAEU Requests ADMIE to Justify Increased Costs of New Connections

The Energy Regulatory Authority (RAAEU) has requested detailed cost data regarding the projects included in the ten-year development plan submitted last year by ADMIE. Although RAAEU ultimately approved the plan, it did so with significant caveats. Specifically, delays and budget overruns have been observed in several key projects. For instance, the initial budget for Phase 4 of the Cyclades interconnection, originally set at €265 million, was revised to €472 million due to increases in raw material costs and other expenses over recent years. RAAEU has requested more detailed cost breakdowns and regular updates on this project. Similarly, the cost of interconnecting islands in the North Aegean rose by €345 million, while the corresponding cost for the Dodecanese increased by €576 million. In these cases, RAAEU demands a thorough cost analysis. Conversely, it accepted without objection the increase from €25.5 million to €126.2 million for the Eastern Corridor 400 kV transmission line in the Peloponnese, which is expected to upgrade the system and enhance prospects for installing more renewable energy sources in the region. Finally, RAAEU supports including upgraded international connections with Turkey, Italy, and Albania, as planned by ADMIE for the coming years.
