Initial estimates by doctors have been confirmed: the death of a 54-year-old woman in Pyrgos was caused by meningococcal meningitis. This is the same strain that affected a young student in Patras. The woman suddenly presented symptoms on Saturday morning and was rushed to the hospital. According to statements from the director of Ilia General Hospital, Spyros Politis, she was transferred with a high fever and initial signs of the disease. Despite immediate medical efforts, her condition rapidly deteriorated. Doctors immediately intubated her and admitted her to the Intensive Care Unit; however, she passed away that same afternoon. Following the diagnosis confirmation, authorities promptly informed her relatives, the EKAB personnel who transported her, and her colleagues so they could receive necessary chemoprophylaxis. Health authorities remain vigilant to prevent further cases.
