Putin in Trump: I am open to dialogue about Ukraine and nuclear weapons

A few hours before his inauguration in Washington, to take official office as the 47th President of the United States, the Russian leader, said today (20.01.20205) that he is open to dialogue with the new American government to discuss both the course of the war in Ukraine and nuclear weapons. In particular, Vladimir Putin made statements during a meeting of the Security Council of Russia and congratulated Donald Trump on taking office, while adding that he wishes to ensure long-term peace in Ukraine rather than a brief ceasefire. CORVERSE It is noted that last Tuesday (14.01.2020) the head of Russian diplomacy, Sergei Lavrov commented on the upcoming presidency Trump at the White House and the possibility of meeting Vladimir Putin, saying: “When President Trump, once he becomes president, finally expresses his position on the Ukrainian issue, of course we will study it. Russia insists that any possible agreement to end the war in Ukraine, which began with the Russian invasion nearly three years ago, should take into account these “realities in the field”. It is a way to emphasise that Russia, in a position of power on the war front, does not count on returning about 20% of the Ukrainian territory it has occupied. For weeks speculation has been made about conditions laid down for possible peace negotiations, following Donald Trump’s inauguration.
