Prosecutor Seeks Conviction of 62-Year-Old Man Accused of Murdering 12-Year-Old Zenaida

The prosecutor has requested the conviction of a 62-year-old man accused of the murder of 12-year-old Zenaida in September 2011. The trial is currently underway at the Mixed Jury Court of Piraeus. The unfortunate girl was found burned on the staircase of her apartment building where she lived with her family in Kaminia and passed away after 13 days of medical care. It was later confirmed that this was a case of murder, with the accused being a 62-year-old neighbor. The prosecutor strongly urged for the conviction of the man, who is accused of setting the girl on fire to cover his tracks. He was the only one who recognized the child. The father of 12-year-old Zenaida expressed his desire for justice, stating, ‘I want my child’s soul to rest peacefully and for the perpetrator to be punished exemplary.’ Initially, the girl’s death was attributed to suicide, but it was later revealed to be a criminal act by the 62-year-old neighbor. Charges against him include premeditated murder, attempted rape, and arson. This case had remained unsolved for over nine years until new evidence emerged following the arrest of the accused, who was reported by his partner for abusing her underage daughter.
