The debate that has every football fan divided – is it Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi? The age-old question of who is the Greatest Of All Time (GOAT) has now even reached royalty. Prince William recently shared his answer in a GOAT debate between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, choosing the Argentine superstar and Miami Inter sensation, Messi. The royal visited Aston Villa’s training ground at Bodymoor Heath on Tuesday (11.03.2025), just ahead of watching his beloved team defeat Club Brugge in the Champions League to secure their place in the semi-finals. During the visit, Prince William participated in a Q&A session with The Sun, where he tackled tough football questions through the game ‘Football Legends – Head 2 Head.’ When asked to choose between Zinedine Zidane and his friend David Beckham, co-owner of Miami Inter, for penalty duties, he admitted: ‘This is painful. I think Beckham, though.’ The challenge got tougher when comparing Brazilian Ronaldo with David Beckham, with the Brazilian easily taking the crown. However, selecting between Ronaldo and Messi proved more challenging, and Prince William ultimately confessed: ‘That’s really difficult… Messi.’ The ultimate test came when choosing between Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, and once again, the prince’s loyalty was clear as he stated: ‘It’s got to be Messi, simply.’ Amidst these tough choices, Prince William revealed that he injured himself mimicking Ronaldo’s iconic ‘Siu’ celebration during a casual game in his backyard, according to Mirror.
