Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expanding their creative partnership with Netflix, following the success of their documentary series Harry & Meghan and the cooking show With Love, Meghan. The couple is now developing a new film centered on the war in Afghanistan, adapting British Army officer Adam Jowett’s memoir No Way Out: The Searing True Story of Men Under Siege.

A Story Rooted in Personal Experience

The book recounts the harrowing experiences of a British military unit during the 2006 Afghanistan conflict. Prince Harry, who served twice in Afghanistan as a British Army officer—rising to the rank of captain before his discharge—is deeply connected to the subject matter. His firsthand experience lends personal weight to the project.

A Continuing Netflix Partnership

Netflix officially announced the film development on Thursday evening. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and now reside full-time in California, reportedly signed an exclusive multi-year production deal with Netflix in 2020. Though widely reported at the time to be worth around $100 million, that figure has never been officially confirmed.

Their first major collaboration under that agreement was the documentary series Harry & Meghan, which chronicled their departure from the Royal Family. It became a record-breaking hit for Netflix, drawing 23 million views globally within its first four days of release—the highest debut for any Netflix documentary.

They also produced With Love, Meghan, a lifestyle and cooking series. Despite receiving largely negative reviews from UK media outlets, it attracted 5 million views in its first six months of 2025 and became the most-watched cooking show on the platform.

New Chapter, Evolving Terms

Last year, the couple signed a new agreement with Netflix. While financial details remain undisclosed, industry observers suggest it is less lucrative than their original deal. Separately, Meghan Markle is set to return to acting in a small role in the upcoming film Close Personal Friends, according to U.S. media reports from late 2025, during filming.
