Prime Minister’s Discontent Over Ministers and MPs Demanding Raises – Responses Tomorrow

in

The Prime Minister’s unease has been triggered by the statements made by ministers and MPs of his party regarding the raises given to certain groups but not to security forces. Additional voices have joined the discussion, including Zetta Makri, Theodoros Karaoglou, Theophilos Leontaridis, Christos Dermetziopoulos, and Anastasios Dimoschakis. According to information, the Prime Minister decided not to visit the Ministry of Health tomorrow (31/03/2025), a visit that had been planned for days. Government sources have announced that clarifications will be provided by the government spokesperson during tomorrow’s press briefing. These sources noted that significant measures have already been legislated for all uniformed personnel, including members of Security Forces (police, coast guard, firefighters, etc.). Already, based on the 2025 budget, the night shift allowance for uniformed personnel was increased as of January 1st. Furthermore, starting from April 1st, all salaries of public employees and uniformed personnel (Security Forces and Armed Forces) will increase by €30 so that base salaries in the public sector align with the private sector following the announced minimum wage increase to €880. Additionally, starting July 1st, all uniformed personnel (156,000 members in Security Forces and Armed Forces) will receive further reinforcement through special working conditions and risk allowances, receiving an additional €100 monthly, with an estimated total fiscal cost of €111 million for 2025 and €222 million for 2026.
