Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis delivered a strong message of ‘legality everywhere’ following the dismantling of a construction ring in Rhodes. The network involved high-ranking officials from the Building Department who issued illegal construction permits and conducted flawed inspections in exchange for bribes ranging from €5,000 to €100,000. In his weekly address, Mitsotakis emphasized that there are no sacred cows when it comes to enforcing the law. The operation was carried out by the Anti-Corruption Unit of the Greek Police, which successfully dismantled a group consisting of five active senior members of the Building Department and two private individuals. They are accused of issuing illegal building permits and conducting improper inspections against payment. This crackdown sends a clear message across all sectors: legality must prevail everywhere. Beyond this issue, Mitsotakis also highlighted other government initiatives, including advancements in education, defense, employment programs, healthcare, and road safety measures. All these efforts aim to modernize Greece’s public services and ensure transparency and accountability in every euro spent from public funds.
