Today at the National Institute for the Deaf, the Prime Minister highlighted commendable work in early diagnosis and intervention for children with hearing issues. He announced a significant policy change: all deaf individuals will now receive a €391 allowance irrespective of age. Previously, the benefit was restricted to children aged 0-18 and later reinstated for pensioners over 65. This revision aims to create fairer, fully inclusive policies recognizing the unique challenges of hearing impairments. The Prime Minister also teased further announcements post-Easter regarding improved access to public television through subtitling initiatives. He emphasized that these actions are possible due to Greece’s improving economy and fiscal space, allowing long-standing injustices to be addressed.
