Starting 31 August, supermarket prices will drop across 12 categories of everyday essentials—from fresh meat and dairy to cleaning products and school supplies. As announced by Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos, the new lower prices—reduced by at least 5%—will remain in effect for the next two to four months.

What’s Included in the Price Reduction?

The cuts target widely used items that regularly top Greek households’ shopping lists—and come just ahead of the new school year, meaning school supplies are also included. The 12 affected categories are:

  • Fresh meat—including beef, pork, and poultry
  • Dairy products—milk, yogurt, cheese, and eggs
  • Bread and flour
  • Pasta, rice, and legumes
  • Olive oil, seed oils, butter, and margarines
  • Infant formula, baby food, and diapers
  • Coffee and breakfast cereals
  • Chocolate, biscuits, and confectionery
  • Soft drinks
  • Cleaning products—including laundry detergents, dishwashing liquids, and multipurpose cleaners
  • Personal hygiene items
  • School supplies
