Starting 31 August, prices will drop across 12 categories of everyday consumer goods in Greek supermarkets — including fresh meat, dairy, chocolate, cleaning products, and school supplies. According to Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos, the new lower prices — at least 5% below current levels — will remain in effect for the next two to four months.
Targeted Categories
The price reductions focus on staple items frequently purchased by Greek households. They come just before the start of the new school year, making them especially timely for families stocking up on essentials. The 12 affected categories are:
- Fresh meat — including beef, pork, and poultry
- Milk, yogurt, cheese, and eggs
- Bread and flour
- Pasta, rice, and legumes
- Olive oil, seed oils, butter, and margarines
- Infant formula, baby food, and diapers
- Coffee and breakfast cereals
- Chocolate, biscuits, and confectionery
- Soft drinks
- Cleaning products — including laundry detergents, dishwashing liquids, and multipurpose cleaners
- Personal hygiene products
- School supplies
