Presented the study for the upgrade of the railway line Patras – Pyrgos –Kalamata

Presented in the Tower study for the upgrade and electrification of railway line Patras – Pirgos -Kalamata. As pointed out by the ceo of ERGOSE Thanos Βούρδας, “the study relates to a route which has as the center of Ancient Olympia, unites four ports, covers fast needs movement and is connected with the trans-european network in the country”.
In particular, according to the study, the purpose of the project is to assist in the development, since the train will connect the ports of Patras, Kyllini, Katakolo and Kalamata. Yes, with a centre of Ancient Olympia can be a pole of attraction for investment, based on tourism.
In addition, according to the study, the proposed line, can serve the already existing hotel business in Ilia and Messinia. Still, it can accommodate the cargo from the ports of Patras, Kyllini, Katakolo and Kalamata.
Also, as has been said, the suburban character of a line, will ensure the economic movement of citizens from Patras to Pyrgos, Ancient Olympia, Katakolon, Kyparissia and Kalamata.
Still, the study there is potential to link the train station with the industrial area of Patras and the civil airport of Araxos, Achaia.
As for the technical characteristics of the study, the section Patras – Pyrgos – Ancient Olympia and connect with Katakolo, has a total length of 131 km and has been studied the conversion of the existing line of metric in normal width.
Also, in section Patras – Pyrgos – Ancient Olympia and connect with Katakolo, provided for 20 stands, in Μιντιλόγλι, Τσουκαλέικα, Furnaces, Alissós, Σαγέικα, New york. Manolada, Κουρτέσι, Andravida, Gastouni, Αμπελόκαμπος, Cardamon, Doyneika, Miramare, Myrtle, Σκουροχώρι, Σαλμώνη, Στρέφι, Prytaneion, and Tree, as well as 13 stations in Βραχνέικα, Etc. Achaia, Lapa, Varda, Lechena, Kavasila, Amaliada, Agios Ilias, a new freight station of Pyrgos, Pyrgos, Alfios, Katakolo and Ancient Olympia.
Section Alfios – Kyparissia – Kalamata has a total length of 118 km, and in this case has been studied the conversion of the existing line of metric in normal width. Still, provided 27 stops and stations in Alpheus, Αλφειούσα, Epitalio, Krestena, Samiko, Καιάφα, Zacharo, Kakovatos, Figaleia, Γιαννιτσοωώρι, Oils, Αγιαννάκη, kalo nero, Kyparissia, Κπονάκι, Δώριο, Royal Καλιρρόη, Zevgolatio, Meligala, Ladder, Βαλύρα, Wide, Mars, Thouria, and Wisconsin.
As to the timings of routes, the route Patras-Pyrgos it takes about an hour and a half, the Patras-Ancient Olympia for about two hours and the route Pyrgos-Kalamata approximately one hour and 45 minutes.
The study was funded by the European Union, and in particular from appropriations of the Trans-european Transport Networks, 2007-2013(2015), a total cost of 5,99 million.
