Zero hour for the commencement of parliamentary sessions to investigate the alleged misconduct by the former Minister of Infrastructure and Transport regarding the Tempi railway tragedy. The session of the Preliminary Committee for Kostas Karamanlis is scheduled for 11:00 AM today (June 25, 2025), under the presidency of Parliament Speaker Nikitas Kaklamanis for the election of a committee bureau. New Democracy and its majority members are expected to propose and support Stavros Keltsis for the position of committee president. Opposition parties, according to previous statements in Parliament and public discourse, are expected to counter-propose an analogical bipartisan bureau including opposition MPs. Following the election of the bureau and the formation of the committee, there will be an initial stance from the parties regarding the scheduling of its work. The committee has been given an initial deadline of two months from today to complete its work. According to New Democracy’s positioning, it will suggest following the model of the previous Preliminary Committee concerning then Deputy Prime Minister Christos Triantopoulos to expedite the referral of the former minister to the Council of State Judges for review. In this case, sources estimate that the committee’s work could be completed and the verdict submitted by early July, with final discussions and secret voting taking place by July 20. Conversely, opposition parties have announced they will request the summoning and examination of all witnesses proposed by the parties, ‘without excuses from the ND majority,’ ensuring the committee fulfills its institutional pre-trial role as defined by the Constitution and Parliament’s rules. The Preliminary Committee consists of 26 members, 14 from ND, 11 from opposition groups, and one independent MP. Specifically, the 14 ND MPs are: Giorgos Amyras, Angeliki Delikara, Dimitris Kairidis, Konstantina Karampatsooli, Panagis Kapatos, Stavros Keltsis, Konstantinos Kefalogiannis, Neoklis Kritikos, Spyros Kyriakis, Michail Livanos, Ioanna Litribi, Alexandros Markogiannakis, Andreas Nikolaopoulos, and Maximos Senetakis. From PASOK: Milena Apostolaki, Evangelia Liakouli, Giorgos Moulikiotis. From SYRIZA: Theophilos Xanthopoulos and Giorgos Papayiou. From KKE: Nikos Karathanasopoulos and Maria Komnenaka. From Greek Solution: Paraschos Papadakis. From New Left: Dimitris Tzanakopoulos. From Niki: Anastasios Oikonomopoulos. From Freedom Course: Eleni Karageorgopoulou. And from the independents: Pavlos Sarakis.
