On Wednesday, the Pre-Investigation Committee for former Transport Minister Kostas Karamanlis is expected to begin its work without delay. Today, Monday, the committee was formed to examine possible misconduct or breach of duty by the former minister regarding the Tempi tragedy. With a decision by Parliament President Nikitas Kaklamanis, the Special Parliamentary Committee for Kostas Karamanlis consists of 26 members in total. Specifically, Kaklamanis decided: 1) To establish a Special Parliamentary Committee for preliminary investigation concerning the tragic accident that occurred on February 28, 2023, in Evangelismos Tempon Larissa, involving Kostas Karamanlis, former Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, for potential breach of duty (Article 259 of the Penal Code). The investigation covers the period from September 2021 to February 28, 2023, focusing on economic damage caused to the ‘Organization of Greek Railways SA’. 2) The formation of the committee includes members from various political parties. The committee has the powers outlined in Article 156 of the Parliament’s Regulations and the deadline for completing its work and submitting findings is set at two months from its establishment.
