Portugal: About 600 firefighters struggle to contain Algarve fire

About 600 Portuguese firefighters are trying to contain a fire that broke out yesterday, Monday, in the tourist area of Algarve, in the south of Portugal, due to which about 60 people were evacuated from the area, the civil protection service announced today.

One firefighter was taken to hospital with burns and two others received first aid on the spot because they inhaled smoke, said a representative of the regional administration of the civil protection service.

Portugal, which was hit in 2017 by the deadliest wildfires in its history, in which more than 100 people died, has had a relatively quiet summer so far on the fire front.
