Renowned journalist Aris Portosalte expressed the opinion that when Kyriakos Mitsotakis steps down from the leadership of New Democracy, Nikos Dendias will have the backing of former Prime Ministers Antonis Samarás and Kostas Karamanlis. ‘When Kyriakos Mitsotakis leaves and candidates declare their candidacy for the presidency, Mr. Dendias has shown he will have the support of Samarás, Karamanlis, and others,’ Portosalte stated on SKAI Morning Thursday (27.03.25), referring to the presence of the two ex-Prime Ministers at a recent Ministry of Defense event. He further emphasized, ‘New Democracy is an urban, liberal, open democratic party, not a Stalinist sect like the Left.’ It’s worth noting that yesterday, Nikos Dendias unveiled the National Memory Ark in the presence of Karamanlis and Samarás. Regarding the absence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis from the event, government sources clarified that he couldn’t attend due to a meeting with the European Commission’s Executive Vice President for Growth and Industrial Strategy, Stéphane Séjourné.
