Pope Francis: Migrants, Homeless, and Prisoners to Attend the Pontiff’s Funeral

in

On Saturday morning (26.04.2025), representatives of migrants, homeless individuals, and prisoners will be present at Pope Francis’s funeral, as was announced late in the evening on April 23, 2025. Throughout his 12-year papacy, Pope Francis dedicated much of his ecclesiastical mission to these marginalized groups. Just before Easter, the ‘Pope of the Poor’ ordered that €200,000 from his personal pontifical account be given to support young people confined in Rome’s juvenile detention centers, particularly a small bakery they had managed to establish. Meanwhile, around Vatican City, giant screens are being set up so faithful who cannot find a spot in St. Peter’s Square can watch the funeral proceedings. The veneration of the faithful at St. Peter’s Basilica continues at a steady pace. As of this moment (23:00), approximately 20,000 people have entered the basilica, and its doors will remain open even after midnight due to the massive turnout.
