Polytechnic: “Fortress” the center of Athens – Metro stations in Monastiraki and Omonia, the closed streets

“Fortress” reminds today, Sunday (17.11.24) the center of Athens for the 51st anniversary of its uprising , as events culminate. The gates of the Polytechnic opened it early and will close at one noon, whenever the established course to the American embassy will follow. On foot are 5,500 thousand police officers, while drones and helicopters have been recruited. In fact, after a meeting it was decided that all university institutions should be kept by EL.A. Forces of MAT, men of the Task Force, Zeus, Security and Traffic have gathered since the morning in downtown Athens, for the march to the U.S. embassy in Basilissi Sofia. In fear of incidents on the streets, the “airs” of EL will come out. AS. while helicopters and drones will transmit live image to the GADA Operations Center, in the presence of prosecutors. How the Metro will operate The centre is currently inaccessible, traffic arrangements are in place, and based on a newer mandate from EL. AS Metro Monastiraki stations (Lines 1 and 3) and Omonia (Lines 1 and 2) will eventually remain open. At 2 noon stations Constitution, Evangelism, Concert Hall and University will be closed and trains will pass through them without making a stop. What I remember is that in those days there was a pulse,” said a lady of the so-called “generation of the Polytechnic”, who came to the site along with her daughter and two grandchildren. “This is an historic event and we should not bypass it,” he added, “it is absolutely timely and it is good to never forget our history, because whoever forgets it is doomed to erase.” Families with children also come to pay tribute, with a flower or drawing and parents explain to their young children why they have come here. “Wet-sleeved, we said we would come, because it is very important to commemorate the anniversary of the Polytechnic uprising,” stressed the father of a six-year-old child. “At school we had the festival for the Polytechnic and I was excited about these students,” said Maria, a fourth-grade student and added: “I am proud of them, because thanks to them we have freedom and joy”. The above traffic arrangements will be carried out gradually and depending on the traffic conditions. Furthermore, according to the decision of the ‘road transport S.A.’, amendments will be made to the routes and stops of the means of transport (buses – Trolley). The Attica Traffic Directorate designed and implemented traffic facilitation measures in the wider area of the center of Athens. Finally, Traffic invites drivers on Sunday 17-11-2024 to avoid traffic and parking of their vehicles at the venues of the events, the route and around the U.S. Embassy. Changes in hours, and in the Museums Changes will take place in the hours of two museums and an archaeological site, according to the announcement of the Ministry of Culture due to the anniversary of the Polytechnic, whose events of memory have already begun.
