Effects
Women suffering from the syndrome are at risk more than other chronic and serious diseases.
Diabetes
Some women with PCO have a problem in the use of insulin by the body.
Endometrial cancer
High levels of androgens prevent the shedding of the endometrium each month, increasing the possibility of endometrial cancer at a younger age.
Heart disease
Women with PCO have low levels of HDL (good cholesterol) in comparison with the levels of LDL (bad cholesterol) and triglycerides. Apart from the tendency to hypertension, the above high levels of cholesterol predispose to heart disease or stroke.
