Political Spat Erupts in Parliament Between Floridis and Velopoulos Over Karoni’s Findings

in

Tensions escalated significantly in the Greek Parliament during a heated exchange between Justice Minister Giorgos Floridis and Kyriakos Velopoulos, President of Greek Solution. The debate centered around the findings of Professor Dimitris Karoni from NTUA regarding the Tempi case. The two exchanged harsh words, with Velopoulos calling on the minister to resign. Other MPs also intervened, introducing new terminology like ‘Floridism’. In their dialogue, Floridis told Velopoulos, “I understand your difficult position for the lies you used to mislead people.” Velopoulos countered by stating that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis mentioned something was amiss, not his party, accusing Floridis of shielding the PM. Further exchanges involved MP Christos Giannoulis criticizing what he termed as political cynicism, while Nasos Iliopoulos accused Floridis of exceeding limits. Floridis defended himself by referencing his past resignation when disagreeing with his party, unlike others. This back-and-forth exemplifies the ongoing front-line conflict between the government and opposition over the Tempi issue.
