Greek Police have issued a formal clarification regarding recent reports suggesting a service disruption to the national emergency number ‘100’ — operated by the Attica Immediate Response Directorate — during the early hours of March 5, 2026.

Planned Maintenance, No Service Interruption

According to an official statement, approximately three hours of scheduled software upgrade work were carried out during that period. Crucially, contingency measures were in place: eight backup analog phone lines remained fully active to handle incoming calls.

Through these lines, operators recorded a total of 254 incident reports — including 47 calls made from mobile phones.

Debunking Misinformation

The statement explicitly refutes claims circulating online about a so-called “blackout” or non-functioning emergency line for mobile callers. Authorities stress that such assertions are factually inaccurate and risk creating misleading public perceptions about the operational readiness and responsiveness of the emergency call center.

The Police reaffirmed that the ‘100’ emergency line operates continuously and remains fully available to citizens at all times — ready to respond immediately to requests for assistance and protection.
