In a strongly worded Facebook post, PASOK-Movement for Change MP Pavlos Polakis launched a fierce public critique of former SYRIZA president Sokratis Famellos—escalating internal party tensions. Polakis, who represents Chania in parliament, called on Famellos to accept political responsibility for SYRIZA’s trajectory, writing bluntly: ‘Stop disgracing yourself further. Apologize for what you’ve done. Hand over your parliamentary seat and go home—or wherever else you’ve arranged to be.’
Call for Seat Transfer to Rania Avgery
Polakis went on to argue that Famellos’ parliamentary seat should instead go to Rania Avgery, noting that while SYRIZA suffered an overall electoral decline in the 2023 national elections, Avgery increased her personal vote tally by roughly 2,000 ballots compared to 2019. In contrast, he claimed Famellos lost approximately 4,500 votes—and barely secured re-election.
