Against the backdrop of sweeping changes within SYRIZA, MP Pavlos Polakis has urged the party’s leadership to immediately present a concrete proposal regarding cooperation with Alexis Tsipras’s new party, the Progressive Alliance (ELAS), and the future collaboration of progressive forces ahead of upcoming elections.
In a video posted on Facebook, Polakis noted that “it has already been six or seven days since I and other SYRIZA MPs asked SYRIZA President Sokratis Famellos to present us with a specific agreement concerning ELAS—clarifying how progressive forces will cooperate electorally and politically.”
He described as unprecedented in Greek political history a Central Committee decision stating outright that one party supports another—a move he called inexplicable even to “dream interpreters”—and stressed that such a decision must now take tangible form. “Yet we still see no sign of it materialising,” he added.
Polakis also criticised Famellos, saying the party president recently gave an interview featuring “the same incomprehensible statements.”
“I call on all SYRIZA MPs to clearly, honestly, and transparently choose their path—soon, and in full view of the voters who elected and supported us,” Polakis said, extending the same call to members of SYRIZA’s Central Committee who, he said, have already opted to back another political entity.
“I remain in SYRIZA,” he affirmed, adding: “This parliamentary group—with its current focus on constitutional revision—strikes me as strange.”
