A new controversy has erupted between Paulos Polakis and Adonis Georgiades, this time concerning the agreements between EOPYY (the Public Health Organization) and private hospitals, clinics, and treatment centers. Approaching Parliament on Wednesday (12.03.25), Polakis accused Health Minister Georgiades of preparing a ‘new gift’ for the clinic owners. According to Polakis, the recent Government Gazette issue regarding the EOPYY agreement with private clinics and hospitals reverses the previous agreement established under his own tenure. The original agreement stipulated that private clinics must allocate 40% of their total beds for services to EOPYY-insured patients. However, with the new agreement, this percentage is now reduced to just 25% of the beds in the third category only. Polakis highlighted that while a private facility with 100 beds previously allocated 40 beds for EOPYY insured patients, the new rule dramatically limits the available beds to these patients. The response from Health Minister Georgiades is awaited with interest.
