Plane Makes Emergency Landing on Busy Highway in Brazil – Scenes of Horror

Who wouldn’t be terrified if they saw an airplane flying just above their heads? Hundreds of drivers in Brazil experienced this exact scenario when the pilot of a single-engine aircraft decided to make an emergency landing on a busy highway due to mechanical failure. Even more shocking, everything was captured in stunning videos by drivers who witnessed the plane landing between cars and trucks mere meters ahead of them! The Brazilian pilot was forced to land the plane on the highway shortly after takeoff when a mechanical issue arose. With incredible calmness and skill, the 29-year-old pilot, Mateus Renan Calado, successfully landed the aircraft safely, avoiding nearby power lines and passing vehicles without any injuries reported. On board was also the 71-year-old businessman Valdemiro Jose Minella, who owns the plane. This all happened at noon on Saturday (April 5, 2025), when the aircraft took off from Guararamirim Airport in southern Brazil’s Santa Catarina state. The mechanical failure forced the young pilot to make an emergency landing on the traffic-filled road. The plane stopped just before a truck, coming dangerously close to the median barrier. The truck driver braked abruptly to avoid collision but remained unharmed. Immediately after stopping, the plane was moved off the road for driver safety, its wings were removed, and it was loaded onto a truck for transportation. In videos capturing the moment-by-moment emergency landing, you can hear a woman screaming in disbelief at what she sees ahead. She shouted that the plane might collide with cars, while the man beside her exclaimed, ‘My God, unbelievable! What luck!’ as they approached the immobilized aircraft at the edge of the road. This Saturday morning (April 5), around noon, a single-engine plane made an emergency landing on BR-101 in Garuva, northern Santa Catarina, Brazil — no injuries were reported. The aircraft had undergone technical inspection earlier in the year and had only flown seven hours since then, including the brief flight on Saturday.
