A disturbing video documented by newsit.gr captures a serious traffic accident that occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, 13 May, on Marathonos Avenue near Pikermi. Two cars collided with significant force — one of them veered off the road, crossed over an unprotected central divider, entered oncoming traffic, and ultimately crashed into the outdoor area of a local business on the Rafina side.
Collision triggered by possible red-light violation
The incident took place just after 7:00 p.m., causing alarm in the area. According to initial reports, the driver of one vehicle attempted a left turn toward Rafina, while the other car was traveling along Marathonos Avenue heading toward Athens. Preliminary indications suggest that one of the drivers may have run a red light, leading directly to the high-impact crash.
Vehicle causes extensive property damage
Following the impact, the car traveling on the avenue lost control. It mounted the central median — which lacked protective barriers — briefly entered the opposite lane, and then smashed into the shop’s forecourt. Footage shows the vehicle striking and dislodging a business sign, hitting metal railings, dragging a parked delivery motorcycle, and colliding with another stationary car.
Fortunately, only material damage resulted from the crash. No pedestrians or drivers were injured.
