Maintaining the worshipful and Greek Orthodox character of the Holy Monastery of Saint Catherine in Sinai and resolving the issue through institutional means was requested by the Prime Minister from the President of Egypt during a phone call they had on Friday afternoon (30/05/25). During their conversation, Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi discussed developments concerning the Holy Monastery of Saint Catherine in Sinai following the recent decision by the Egyptian judiciary. As known, on Monday, June 2nd, a Greek delegation will travel to Egypt for further processing of the agreement already reached between Greece and Egypt to ensure its swift completion. It is emphasized that both leaders agreed that the solution lies in the already recorded mutual understanding of both sides, as well as what had been previously agreed upon and publicly announced during the visit of the President of Egypt to Athens on May 7th, 2025.
