In an interview with the morning show hosted by Giorgos Liangas, Petros Kostopoulos spoke about the engagement of his eldest daughter, Amalia Kostopoulou, to Jack Mengewell. Speaking on ANT1, Kostopoulos described Mengewell as a “great guy” and admitted that he shed tears when he learned that his daughter would receive a marriage proposal. The renowned publisher remarked, “I wouldn’t say, like some others might, that I’m overly proud of a marriage. Pride for me came from their studies, their good jobs—Amalia works in a company dealing with artificial intelligence, and she’s doing incredibly well. For everything else, I am happy. Her fiancé is a great guy, he could be my son. He loves traveling, adventure, and every summer he was in Greece.” Kostopoulos added, “I was relieved that he came to ask for her hand from both me and her mother. I appreciated it so much; it caught me off guard and brought on emotions I hadn’t felt before. He sent a message to both me and her mother saying he’d come to Athens and not tell Amalia. You understand what this means. He took a 16-hour journey. He asked me: Do you agree that… (I formalize my relationship with your daughter?) There, I was deeply moved by his mature approach. This old-fashioned gesture feels modern today… I was very touched. I didn’t burst into tears but teared up a little. Weddings are more of a woman’s affair.” When asked about the wedding date and location, Kostopoulos clarified that he doesn’t inquire and doesn’t know. “I hope they invite me,” he said with humor.
