Petralona: Alarm Sounded Before Collapse — ‘I Thought My Father Had Entered the House’

At the Petralona apartment building that collapsed at noon on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, a young tenant’s home security alarm began blaring nonstop—flooding her phone with repeated notifications. She was outside Athens at the time, but just before noon, she started checking her phone obsessively as alerts from the system she’d installed in her flat at 22 Alkmnis Street in Petralona kept coming—uninterrupted.

A Warning That Went Unheeded

That moment appears to have marked the beginning of the countdown to the collapse of the four-storey building—whose final failure occurred about an hour later. As previously documented by newsit.gr, the building gradually began detaching from the adjacent structure to its right, creating an initial gap between the two. It then tilted increasingly until it crumbled like a ‘cardboard tower’.

The woman, seeing the flood of security alerts, assumed her father had entered the flat—and forgot to deactivate the alarm. On TikTok, she posted the notification log with the caption: ‘The alerts from my alarm during the collapse… something I never expected to happen.’

Final Moments Before Collapse

At 11:58 a.m., her system registered motion inside the apartment. At 11:59 a.m.—just one minute later—the signal cut out completely. Minutes afterward, she learned the devastating news: the building where she lived had collapsed. Her anxiety spiked as she scrambled to reach her father—only learning later he was safe. He kept a storage room in the same building for his work tools, but was fortunately outside at the time of the collapse.

Authorities had been urgently trying to contact her by phone to confirm she wasn’t inside during the incident. They located her shortly after—while she was still outside Attica.
