Starting today (June 3, 2025), the Personal Number is being introduced to gradually replace AFM (Tax Identification Number), AMKA (Social Security Number), and other numbers used in our daily transactions with public services. The issuance of the Personal Number will be simple and digital through the platform myinfo.gov.gr (users can also access via pa.gov.gr). Those who do not proceed with the issuance on their own will automatically receive it starting September 5, 2025. The Personal Number consists of 12 characters, including three alphanumeric prefix digits and nine numeric digits derived from the Tax Identification Number issued to individuals. It will be included in new identity cards and digital identities via Gov.gr Wallet, facilitating online identification. To obtain the Personal Number, users must log into myinfo.gov.gr using TaxisNet codes and a one-time password (OTP) received via the National Communication Registry. They confirm personal details from various registries, select two initial alphanumeric characters from 24 available options, and finalize the process by clicking ‘Issue Personal Number.’ This number is unique, permanent, and cannot be changed. Citizens can also issue Personal Numbers for their underage children if they have an AFM. The process is available digitally or through Citizen Service Centers (KEP) for residents abroad or those without digital skills. The Personal Number enhances data interoperability, reduces duplicate entries, and ensures robust personal data protection according to EU standards.
