Personal Number: Already Issued to 21,000 Citizens – Step-by-Step Process

in

Within just one hour, more than 21,000 citizens obtained their Personal Number through the official website myinfo.gov.gr. This number will gradually replace identity numbers, AMKA, and other codes used in daily transactions with public services. Through this platform, citizens can issue their Personal Number themselves. Those who don’t will automatically receive it starting September 5. In the first hour of operation, 21,000 citizens proceeded to issue their Personal Numbers. To obtain the Personal Number, citizens follow these steps: First, they log into the myinfo application using their TaxisNet credentials and a second-factor authentication code (OTP) sent to the mobile phone registered with the National Communication Register (EMEp). Next, they confirm their details based on the Citizens’ Register and linked registries, including the Ministry of Interior, Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE), Unified Social Security Number Registry, Greek Police Identity Card Register, and EMEp. Afterward, they choose ‘Edit Details,’ verifying information such as name, date of birth, municipality registration, AMKA, AFM, and contact details, which can only be updated via EMEp. If any data is incorrect, citizens can correct it in the corresponding field. Once verified, the basic public administration registers are updated. If discrepancies exist with the Citizens’ Register, citizens must contact their municipal registry office for corrections. To finalize the issuance, citizens select ‘Issue Personal Number’ and choose the first two digits from a dropdown menu, selecting from 24 alphanumeric characters—10 numeric (0-9) and 14 Greek letters with Latin equivalents. The third character is automatically generated for validation purposes. The Personal Number is issued once per individual, is unique, and remains unchanged. Starting September 5, all citizens who haven’t issued it will automatically receive their Personal Number.
