The implementation of the Personal Citizen Number is set to take place within the next 10 days, aiming to end citizens’ struggles with bureaucracy. Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, provided clarifications today (07.05.25) regarding the application process following the publication in the Government Gazette. “We are now in the final stages of coordination; the platforms needed are ready, and we aim to launch within May,” stated Mr. Papastergiou while speaking on SKY TV. He clarified, “If you have obtained a new identity card, there’s no need to reapply. Your current ID remains valid until the official launch date.” Furthermore, he explained, “On the launch day, which will occur within one to ten days, the platform myinfo.gov.gr will go live. There, users can view their profile and details across four official state registries. It’s highly likely some information might be incorrect, such as dual first names. Some errors can be corrected by users themselves, like misspelled names, while others, such as surnames, will require a visit to an authorized authority, like your local municipality. The Personal Citizen Number aims to address these discrepancies. Once corrected, the Greek public sector will no longer confuse or misplace your identity or require last-minute document renewals, such as passports. After correcting your details, the next step is issuing the personal number,” elaborated Mr. Papastergiou. “With this number, we resolve all issues. The goal is for the Greek public sector to change its mindset. This won’t happen overnight; the transition will take time. Other numbers, like AMKA, will remain relevant within insurance and tax records but won’t affect citizens directly,” concluded the minister.
