Pensions, ENFIA, and VAT: Who Gets Paid—and Who Must Rush to Meet April’s Deadlines

April’s final week brings a critical mix of financial relief and urgent obligations for Greek citizens. Pensions are being disbursed—providing much-needed liquidity—while property owners and businesses face hard deadlines for ENFIA and VAT payments.

Pension Payments Bring Relief

On 27 April 2026, €1.121 billion will be paid out to 1,663,804 pensioners across Greece for May’s main and supplementary pensions. This disbursement arrives just before month-end—a timely boost for households grappling with persistently high costs for fuel, food, and utilities.

Additional pension-related payments follow later in the week: on 30 April, the e-EFKA platform will distribute €3.05 million to 8,300 beneficiaries as advance pension payments for May. Between 27 and 30 April, another €20 million will be paid to 900 recipients following the issuance of one-off settlement decisions.

ENFIA Deadline Looms

For 6.17 million property owners, 30 April marks the final day to pay the second instalment of the 2026 ENFIA (Real Estate Tax). The first instalment was due by 31 March. This year’s total ENFIA liability stands at €2.297 billion—making the second payment one of the largest mass tax obligations of the month.

Taxpayers who opted for instalment plans must continue making monthly payments through the end of each month. With many households juggling rent or mortgage payments, utility bills, and other fiscal responsibilities, this deadline adds significant pressure on household cash flow.

VAT Filing Due for Many Businesses

The same 30 April deadline applies to VAT declarations for March—required from businesses maintaining double-entry accounting books. At a time when many firms face rising energy, transport, and raw material costs, settling VAT liabilities represents a substantial short-term drain on working capital.
