Following the completion of the process outlined for the new selection system in the public sector and the final ranking of the top candidates by ASEP, Paulos Marinakis, Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister and Government Representative, will propose journalist Giannis Papadopoulos as the president of ERT. Marinakis will announce his nomination to the relevant Special Permanent Committee on Institutions and Transparency of the Hellenic Parliament for review. This marks the first time that the leadership of ERT, at both the presidential and advisory levels, has been chosen through this rigorous selection process, ensuring meritocracy and maximum transparency. Additionally, Giannis Papadopoulos was appointed as interim president last September and later participated in ASEP’s public call for the position, where he ranked first. Thanks to his extensive journalistic experience, he has significantly contributed to upgrading public television and radio quality in recent years. His permanent appointment ensures that ERT will continue providing high-level information, education, and entertainment while respecting taxpayers’ money and upholding principles of pluralism and innovation. Papadopoulos began his career at ERT, working as a reporter, editor, parliamentary, diplomatic, and political editor, chief editor, and news presenter. Over the past eighteen years, he has held various leadership roles in newspapers, TV channels, and radio stations. He also served as a member of the Press Office of the Presidency of the Republic from 1997 to 2021. He holds a degree in Political Science and International Relations from the London School of Economics (BSc), a Master’s in International Business Administration from SOAS University of London (MSc), and is currently a PhD candidate in Media and Communication at the University of Leicester.
