Paul de Graët Honored as Prince by Mayor of Eastern Mani

During a commemorative event marking the start of the 1821 Greek Revolution in Areopoli, Mayor Petros Andreakos greeted Paul de Graët, son of Greece’s former royal family, with a royal title. Speaking at the reenactment of the oath-taking ceremony of the Maniot families on Sunday (March 16, 2025), the mayor stated, ‘Titles follow a person throughout their life.’ Despite titles being abolished after the 1974 referendum, Andreakos warmly welcomed him as ‘Prince Paul.’ The event was part of a series of cultural and historical celebrations honoring the heroes of the Greek War of Independence.
