A tragic fall from scaffolding during construction work in Patras has proven fatal for a 40-year-old builder. The worker, named Vasilis, fell six meters and was rushed to the University General Hospital of Patras, where he was placed in the Intensive Care Unit. Unfortunately, doctors confirmed on Tuesday (June 24, 2025) that he was brain dead. Despite their immense grief, his family made the courageous decision to donate his organs, with the procedure expected to take place later in the day. The Builders’ Union expressed outrage over insufficient safety measures and working conditions, stating that serious worker injuries have become an everyday occurrence. In a statement, they condemned the lack of basic safety measures, overwork, and harsh working conditions, placing full responsibility on the government and contractors who prioritize profit over worker safety. They called for all workers in the industry to join a protest rally today at 10:30 p.m. outside the SEPE offices in New Economic Area of Patras.
