Passive Wi-Fi: 10000 times less energy consumption than the conventional Wi-Fi

The Wi-Fi technology is more than necessary in today’s age, with the… all kinds of connected devices that we use in our everyday life, however, is at the same time one of the main causes of depletion of the battery of our devices. This may change thanks to technology developed researchers at the University of Washington.
The technology is called Passive Wi-Fi, and according to researchers the consumption of energy be reduced by 10,000 times in comparison with the conventional Wi-Fi, but by 1000 times compared to other wireless technologies, low energy profile (e.x. Bluetooth LE or ZigBee).

The aim of the researchers was to carry out transmission of Wi-Fi with as less as possible energy and have reached the limit of 10μW for transmission with a speed of 11Mbps at a distance of up to 30m. Obviously this is significantly less than the conventional WiFi, but it is 11 times more than the Bluetooth.
This discovery is particularly important in an era of the “Internet of Things” and houses will be filled by sensors, connected and wearables devices, therefore, certainly wouldn’t want to worry about their autonomy.
